This basically happens with every violent incident where any related party has had any contact whatsoever with video games, because they're an easy target, and the moral guardians can painlessly shift the reason to them instead of, lets say, victims personal history and/or potential mental issues.

While there is some evidence to the fact that violent videogames and other media can act as a trigger when a person is already unstable (IIRC), they're hardly responsible for the instabilites themselves, and this is something most accusers seem to miss.

Too true, it appears that many, if not all, of the kids responsible for such shootings were typical loners or victims of bullying/harrasment. It is far easier to blame videogames than it is to admit that your school or home or even workplace has issues with respect, worth and humanity. This way, the entire blame falls on the individual him/herself and the games they play rather than the real culprit; all the factors, external and internal, leading up to the event itself.
