While its agreed that the RE5 engine requires too much power, the RE4 engine works just fine on the Wii. It takes VERY little to bring a game like RE5 to the Wii via the RE4 engine. Scale down textures, models and just swap out the art and audio assets from RE4 and plug them in with the modified RE5 assets. |
If it was at all technically viable to port RE5 to the Wii, Capcom would have done it. Simple as that.
Give me one other reason why Capcom haven't done it, after the success of UC and RE4? Because they hate the Wii, or something?
MOst of the Capcom forum mods seem to be full time employees when I've posted on there, although I dunno about this guy.

Correction - they haven't done it THUS FAR.
Remember, RE5 has been in development for approx 4 years now. Kind of big scale. Capcom didnt admit to ignoring the Wii until last year. Who is to say that they won't start doing exactly what I suggested after RE5 is launched? It might take another year or 2, but I wouldn't say it will NEVER happen, at least not this early. Sure, that's an optomistic answer.
The pessimisitc answer - Art director. The art director/producer may feel the "cinematic" flair of RE5 is best not to be reduced in any form, and refuses to do such. Artists are moody people, its best not to piss them off. So the art director may have thrown a sh*t fit upon being asked to scale anything down for a Wii version.
Most of the Capcom forum people that are employees tend to be bored PR people, who are out of the loop until end term marketing and hype. They dont know anything about engine specs either.

Personally, I don't think I would want the art reduced for RE5.
Don't get me wrong, I hated RE4 on the Gamecube and loved it on the Wii both due to controls and I'm not getting RE5 because I don't like the controls but I don't want RE5 on the Wii.
It is completely possible to get it to work on the Wii, there's no reason it wouldn't be, but with the size of the environments I would be willing to be it would look like an early PS2 game or either have the same kind of reductions Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop has (and still not look good).
I'm a big fan of gameplay over graphics but there would be obvious camprisons of the two versions and it just wouldn't be pretty. I'm fine with just missing RE5 and hopefully getting an original RE game on the Wii.

You do know that Dead Rising Wii used the RE4 engine and the game was developed by Tose not the team that actually developed Dead Rising. That in itself, makes a big difference.
