Is it worth it for S-E/Namco to sacrfice their franchises fanbase just for some extra cash (that MS gave to them)?

It's impossible to tell because we dont know what MS gave them. We can only speculate.

If new 360 exclusives from these companies will appear then it definitely was worth it for them. But right now I'd say it was considering namco's comments on ToV sales and SE's will to keep their 360 support in Japan.

I know we will never know whether its worth it or not for them.

But my point is.....is it worth drastically reducing your fanbase.....not looking at LONG TERM & franchise expansion just for the sakes of MS's extra money

now I'm not against FF13 going multiplat....or such games.....as they are "expanding" their fanbase

but keeping JRPG's exclusive to 360 lowers japanese sales & fanbase.....in fact when they should be trying to expand the base

also S-E is talking as if PS3 has sold 0 consoles in NA/EU......n only 360 is present there

when in fact its sold around 17 million at the least

Cutting your fanbase is undeniably bad. But the thing is: they probably didnt really have a choice. Everyone tries to look at this as if SE's top managers are greedy bastards that dont care for the company (mhm.. http://kotaku.com/5165346/square-enix-execs-take-self+imposed-pay-cut )

But the way I see it SE has just put too much hope on one console. As funny as it may sound now but SE really wanted PS3 to dominate the market. Otherwise they wouldnt have announced 2 enourmously huge projects for it at the same time.

But when it's become clear that PS3 isnt going to even remotely dominate SE had to change its plans. The engine that originally was meant to only work with PS3 had to be made multiplatform and a lot of other expensive changes had to be made. SE had to find money to fund all that and they had to do it fast. Microsoft came in handy with their offers.
