But they DID announce another game in an oversaturated genre instead of the sorely-lacking one that people want.

For one thing, this game is 35% along. You can't make that overnight, so it's highly likely this was planned and greenlit before Dead Space Extraction, so when they planned this, the Wii was not as loaded with this genre yet.
