i think that it's something that takes time to get used to. at first i was fumbling around with it, and i had a problem just sellecting stuff on the wii's main menu, but practice (plus the fact that you can sit on your lazy behind and rest your wrist on your lap or something and keep it steadier) have made me relize the ir pointer is almost perfect. it's easy to point at something in a split second and interact with it (like the goo balls in world of goo, the targets in the zelda croosbow game, the 3-d blocks in cubello, or a myriad of other things).
ya, it's mostly the players or the makers of the games problem for crappy ir utilization, though it is a little hard to get used to at first (like the first time you play the wii).
come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=47568
