I loved the US version of SMB2, great music and gameplay. Sure it wasnt really meant to be a Mario title, but it worked for me and alot of my friends, I loved the fact you could pick and choose your character, and there different abilities.
Toad was always my favorite, because he could pick up fruit/coins faster than anyone else, and as long as you knew what character to use for a level you could make a run through the game pretty fast
