I haven't had a chance to buy halo wars yet but I've herd good things

Halo Wars sucks. You have to press up on the d-pad and then up on the analog stick to go into FPS mode, and even then you can only shoot really slowly. Total bummer.

Actually, this guy puts it much more eloquently than I ever could.
