It's not IMPOSSIBLE, it would simply require a downgrade in some other area. If the wii could comfortably run 32 person online multiplayer with decent fidelity in other areas, don't you think WaW would've done it? Or the Conduit?

 

By "other areas" you mean graphics right. I don't think gameplay would fit this. The only people would would care are those who don't own a Wii, or didn't plan on getting the Wii version becuase of graphics in the first place.
