Yes, but it's hard to deny that Microsoft defeated Sony this generation, or more accurately, Sony defeated themselves. They are certainly far beyond the point of winning anything, while Microsoft easily can chalk up this generation as a grand success.

Sony's fumble came in the form of the Blu-Ray player. They risked the success of their gaming division so they could promote what they hoped would be a much more profitable division in the future, movies and other BR related media.

As for the rpg statement, the highest selling games of ever gen are always preordained. However, most of the core Sony fans, I imagine the ones like myself who switched to the Xbox 360, always cherished their jrps that were only available on the Sony consoles. Sure, it's anecdotal, but it is also a commonly held belief. Sony dropped the ball with jrpgs this gen, and their fanbase chided the for it, if nothing else. I hope to hell Killzone 2 was worth it.

As for me, I don't know anyone who would trade Dragoon 2 for a few hours of a derivitive FPS with an online mode and pretty graphics. Then again, I hang around gamers, not fanboys.

I never said that Sony wasn't defeated this generation, so don't put words in my mouth. And you really must think I'm an idiot if you felt like explaining the consequences of the Blu-ray inclusion. The PS3 didn't have a ridiculous manufacturing cost just because of one Blu-ray diode. There were a lot of other things that drove up the cost of making the console and could be considered mistakes. Don't explain things to me like I'm a child.

And how are the highest selling games of the generation always preordained? At the start of this generation, did anyone think that Wii Fit would be the hit game of this generation? No! You wanna know why? Because know one had ever heard of it! Unless you're implying that some mystical force predetermines which games sell well in the generation, in which case you're either straying off topic with something random or you're stating something obvious. I can't really tell at this point.

If the core Sony fans were so RPG obsessed, we would have seen 360 JRPGs selling A LOT more. The highest selling JRPG in America on the 360 has sales in the region of .55 million. The highest selling on the PS2 in America (Kingdom Hearts) racks up a total in the region of 3.45 million. This means we can come to either two conclusions. One, the JRPG-loving PS2 owners mostly moved over to the 360, but in insignificant amounts. Or two, that most of them have actually moved over to the DS, PSP, and possibly Wii (I mention the Wii because of the incredible userbase size). After all, the sales of RPGs on the handhelds would convince me of that. What sales numbers for 360 RPGs do you have to back up your assumption?

That last comment came out of nowhere, and ironically, sounded like a cliche fanboy comment.

 

 

I think you took my post the wrong way. I was actually agreeing with you, and all my explainations were aimed at other readers. Which of us was unclear, we'll never know. I wasn't aiming my chides in your direction, and any simple truths I stated weren't meant to inform you, or others, but instead to remind everyone who read my post of the simple accepted truth that they may have lost sight of, dead horse beating though it might be.

That said, I stand by my last post, but add that it wasn't directed at you, nor was it meant as an insult towards your quoted section. I wasn't so much responding to your post as I was building upon it, and venturing into other areas of the topic that you didn't touch on, for the sake of the onlookers.

Know this. I certainly don't think you're and idiot. However, I know you've been around enough to know that if I was actually flaming you, you'd know it, and it wouldn't be all touchy feely like my last post. You said nothing flameworthy. Let's move on.
