Yeah, scientists have been analysing planets using the transit method for detecting exoplanets since the 1990's. I think gravitational lensing is a good method too and I have heard some interesting stuff about polarimetry, I would like to see that applied to more than one planet.

At the end of OP I know they have not found a planet with vegetation. You are either thinking of two things...

1. Gliese 581 C/D - people like to get excited about these planets as they are in the 'Goldilocks' zone. People (read sensationalist newspapers) claim they may support life such as vegetation. But the truth is they are just empty desolate planets that have no chance of supporting life.

2. Europa - Europa is a moon of Jupiter it is a ball of ice, but it is believed that the constant gravitational pull creates so much energy that the core is water. Scientists like to believe that life could exist there, but no evidence exists.
