I think the guy is on the right track sort of.

In my opinion Sony know now is their best time for the console to claw back the numbers the 360 has over it. It has set up everything for now and this year. It is the last chance salloon for the PS3 to fight back. The first quarter/half of 2009 for the 360 has no exclusive big hitters coming, we know games are what sell game systems. The PS3 has a very big number of exclusives in the same period what with Yak3,KZ2,Infamous etc. Add to that multi-platform games such as Resident Evil 5 etc = a very good period for the PS3.

However what we don't know is the 360 line-up for the rest of the year. At GDC and at E3 we will find out what Microsoft have up their sleeve if they have anything at all. MS have always been a company deep in secret with their products especially games. With the simple announcements of Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2, Mass Effect 2 i wonder why they were announced like that. Maybe it is because like when Gears 2 was announced there was bigger announcements to come so they wanted their own day of limelight rather then be on the same stage as xyz. So my sneaky feeling is in the next few weeks and months we will start to see agressive movement from MS with their announcements on games. With the financial results of the year it is clear in terms of buying power MS has a lot of excess $$$ to buy up titles while Sony can't.

This then in my view sets up a repeat of last year. PS3 will get to September in front having had a price cut and the games to go with that. The PS3 will be doing very well. But then for Sony it all depends on if they can get God of War 3, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Drakes 2 etc out. If they can get these games out to match what the 360 has for holidays 2009 then Sony will have a very good 09 in my book.

But if those games get delayed and it has a light holiday line up and repeats sales of 08 then that will be it for the PS3. We saw what MS can do sales wise if it chooses to drop price and they have made enough money to drop further if they want too.
GDC kicks off 2 weeks tomorrow, last year we had games like Fable 2 announced. A game that sold nearly 3m units in just over 3 months. Gears 2 was announced at GDC last year too, a game that sold nearly 5m units in just over 3 months. Point being were about to enter what analysts know as the MS zone, a time when they come clean about the games/products they have coming this year. Unlike Sony MS will not announce games years away, that is not the way they do things, they didn't become one of the biggest companies in the world by giving away their secrets.

So what happens in this period really will define the year in terms of sales. If MS come out with nothing other then a few more ex exclusives going Multi-platform then that won't change much. They need exclusives and i would be very shocked if they don't get them. I would not be surprised one bit to see the next Grand Theft Auto game go exclusive on 360, nor would i be surprised to see Modern Warfare 2 go exclusive etc, MS have the money to make that happen. And if they don't do something like that then i seriously wonder what direction the console will go.

PS3 will have a good year if all the games don't suffer delays and meet expectations. If MS comes out with nothing then it will be a very good holiday for PS3. But if MS comes out guns blazing then it will be the 4th year in 2nd place for 360.
