I think $599 was the worst move they made.
I do think that you're on to something, though. I was one of those who snapped up an MGS4 bundle since they were killing off backwards compatibility. Figured I'd be way more pissed if my PS2 died and I had to buy another one than if I just go ahead and pay more for a BC PS3 now. Otherwise, I'd probably still be waiting for a price cut.
