| Bobbuffalo said: @Ail: I really doubt that anybody would have know what was in the works for the Wii from the 3d parties. They always had a very hesitant attitude towards it. Some of the wii owners that got a wii on the launch day bought it for Zelda or Wii sports (the new audience bought it for the later). Most of the wii owners did what you do with your PS3, they wait until something more solid was in the works or bought it because the 1st party offer was great enough. At least that's what I did. But still, if you read the threads carefully nobody is criticizing that there are not 3d party games on the wii because there is. What we criticize (and WE ARE RIGHT WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT), is that 3d parties treat us like if we were retards or can't grab a control, even to the expanded audience which are not dumb at all. They make insulting remarks to us, keep ignoring us like if we were an itch that will disappear and gave us crappy games and they criticize us if we don't like them. That's what we complaint because unlike other generations, 3d parties are becoming snobby and that's just not right, not only to wii owners but to gamers in general of any console. What Rol is mocking is that some of these games have bombed because there is a lack of publicity (which is important to any product) or they are just bad ports. And companies use them as an excuse to say that 3d party games don't sell on the wii?! And I am sorry, but even you with your beloved PS3 can't deny that's just plain bull. |
I'm not saying Third parties are treating Wii customers well.
I think one issue is that the relationship between hardcore Wii fans and Third party developers isn't really the best right now and that has to ( even if subconsciently) affect what is being developed for each console . ( the gaming development business isn't really like others business, no matter what management says it want the development team actually has a lot of the game destiny in hands ( esp when you get game company where the execs are not even gamers, how the heck can you sell and judge the quality of a product you do not even use ).
As for best development teams and the Wii ( there was another thread about this), as long as the teams do not want to do it by themselves management will have a tough time convincing them to do it ( that's only for the best teams of course, the medium ones are replaceable and usually do as asked, but the better an employee/artist is the more free reign he gets into deciding what he will work on ( and guess what, Rockstar is releasing a GTA DS game after getting a new deal with TakeTwo where they get a bigger share of the profit generated by the games they develop, so now they have an incentive to work on making more money...)
But seriously EA CEO can says all he wants about bringing quality titles to the Wii, if he does not allocate a big budget toward this ( his control) and does not get the best creative minds and teams of the company on board( not as much his control) it will have troubles happening...
