You do realize that people can own both consoles don't you? And you do realize that MS gets royalties from selling games? And you do realize that a lot of japanese gamers favor the PS3 and would most likely buy all multiplats on the PS3 if they had both? And you do realize there is an online co-op which means if a person picks up the 360 version early, later on it could factor into a friend getting the 360 version over a PS3 version? And you do realize the more someone plays a system and the more games they buy for a system the more they are going to like the system and support games on it that they otherwise may not have been interested in or even cared to check out? You do also realize that that link was from a japanese website advertising for free the XBOX 360 and the fact that a very popular game is on that console, helping to erase the notion that the 360 doesn't have many games for the japanese market?

Just because you can't figure out how it would help MS, doesn't mean that it wouldn't. 

Wait, so Japan, which has only sold 3 million PS3's and 1 million 360's, is supposed to have a high percentage of people owning BOTH the PS3 and 360 rather than the Wii which has sold 8 million?  The free 360 link was probably the same as the fake/scams and "participation required" ads we see all the time for all systems.  The 360 has had more games for the Japanese market than the PS3 this generation... so I fail to see how a multiplat releasing ONE day early at ONE retailer is going to move thousands of PS3 loyalists.

I think you are taking this poor excuse for a conspriacy and running it straight through a stack of needles.

 

 

Rather than a wii? Who was talking about a wii? what does that have to do with anything? obviously if someone in japan has 2 consoles there is a higher chance one of them will be a wii. But what does that have to do with anything? I'm sure there are plently of people that own a PS3, then bought a 360 for star ocean or one of the other japanese targeted games out on that system. And you're right there are a lot of games on the 360 targeted at the japanese market but it still is only selling 1/3 of the PS3. Obviously there is either deep seeded bias against the 360 or there is a perceptual gap between what japanese games the 360 offers and what the japanese think the 360 offers. Having a very popular, well established franchise, come out on that system can help to change that perception of the 360 not supporting japanese friendly games.

I don't think 100 infinite discoveries or last remnants will do as much to change that perception as one Resident Evil game. Even if a person doesn't own a 360 or want to buy RE5, just knowing that the system supports well established Japanese games will do a lot to change that bias perception against it and lead to much better sales in the future for the 360 or future MS consoles. Having exclusive's like Star Ocean, another well established franchise, doesn't hurt changing the perception of the 360 either.

Also I didn't say this would swing thousands of PS3 loyalists to buy a 360. You put too many words into my mouth. And I believe this was a chain of retailers not just a single store. But either way obviously the impact it would have would depend on the scale that it took place. But the theory of the benefits still remains the same no matter how large or small.
