The reason they're holding back is because demand will be even higher at Christmas. If you can't buy a Wii this week, that's ok, you can buy one next week or the week after, or whenever you have time to wait in line in the morning. But if people can't buy a Wii for Christmas, they'll miss a gift-giving opportunity. There are people who will buy Wiis at Christmas who would not buy them at another time. If you don't have enough Wiis at Christmas, you won't sell Wiis to these people.
