We've seen litterally dozens of quotes about KZ2's budget, so it's hard to say that it's impossible to put a pricetag on what it cost. If you want to argue that, we can do it in another thread. How is 60k a 'horrible' opening in North America? It's better than the launches of every other X360 JRPG outside of Lost Odyssey, and managed to beat out a lot of other non-360 JRPGs for debuts such as Persona 3, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Valkyria Chronciles, and the list goes on and on. I think the main issue is that we don't have enough data at VGC to know how legs are going to be for a game like Star Ocean 4. They could be good, or bad, we just don't know. I find it interesting that you say that Killzone 2 has done great, comparing it to World at War, when we know that very (and I mean very) few FPS games have legs like CoD4 and WaW have had, yet you compare them to eachother. Also, I'd love to know where I was basing the entire LTD of WKC off of 1 week of sales. It's first week was great, and I am pretty sure I said that in the Famitsu thread that we had. |
So basically we should speculate on KZ2's costs? I see you're taking a page out of starcraft's book... x_x
60k is horrible. And then you name how it beat out VC, Fire Emblem, and Persona which have never been as big as Star Ocean has been. Don't try to compare apples and oranges. Star Ocean has been around forever and has a huge name, while all of those are niche game series.
I said that Killzone 2 is tracking close to CoD: WaW for the first week that it's out, which means that it's in good company. I didn't say it'd be that good, or sell better than it, but for the ones crucifying it's first week sales, we should also crucify CoD: WaW's first week sales, which are comparable to this.
