IGN: Is Final Fantasy VII overrated?

I've been saying FFVII was overrated for nearly a dozen years now. I have never been as disappointed and underwhelmed by a game as I was FFVII. Between the shoddy story, poor characters, bad graphics, awful gameplay and worse than cartridge audio quality the game has little value. The only thing I liked about FFVII is that it proved JRPGs could sell in the West with a massive ad campaign.
