Nintendo warns that customers who don't get their DSi consoles early may find them hard to get during Christmas 2009, thanks to possible demand-driven shortages and constant levels of hardware production.
"I always advise people to buy early," recommends Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton in an interview with the UK Times. "One of the things that people don’t seem to understand is that factories are producing constantly; they don’t peak and trough."
"So we’re producing product all the time, but then everyone wants it all at the one end of the year. It’s just so hard to try and keep up."
Yarnton was asked a variety of questions about the DSi, including why it's region-coded. He made note of the different ratings requirements for various world regions, and specifically said that Nintendo supports PEGI's ratings system in the UK, as opposed to the BBFC's.
"The PEGI system works in other countries and it’s got support throughout Europe. So we’re quite keen to continue that," he said.
The Times also asked him whether Nintendo felt threatened by the increasing sophistication of portable games in the mobile market, with Apple's iPhone gaining particular buzz right now.
"Mobile phone gaming has been 'going to happen' for a long time," he replied. "We’re still waiting."

I think DSi shortage this shortage should be expected not only in UK but in other regions as well.
