the AI is not a valid argument.  generally speaking, let's say there's a performance difference of 10 times between ps3 and wii, that doesn't not translate into "10 times better AI that you can perceive".  good AI requires clever programming and not brute force.  it's prohibitively likely you can't at all tell difference in AI given the same code for the ps3 and the wii.

now, i'm not in the gaming industry, but i'll say better AI really does mean hiring programmers who actually know AI well.  i know a lot of programmers and most of them have little knowledge of AI.  i know one specialized AI programmer but i gather that they get paid a bit more and don't work for gaming companies.

i don't think we're at the age of good AI yet--it's "current research" and doesn't seem to be ready for prime time.  give or take another 20 years.

Mostly better AI means better shot accuracy and enemies who dont come out of the cover every 3 seconds. Of course, with more power you can get the most benefit. But the real reason for improving AI is improving code. You can use the old AI code and make few changes to it and you have new and better AI. Someone mentioned the interacting with multiple characters, which really is the point. You just cant handle too many enemies at the same time. And physics simulation is mostly the same thing with AI. Code for using it matters the most. One thing, what PC gamers have mentioned about PS3 and 360 games is, that when you look at a crowd, console might have hundreds of people at the screen at the same time but PC games might have hundreds of people at the screen at the same time -and they all look diffent. Anyway, the power wont still hurt when playing games. By the way, PS3 has 256MB of memory, not 512 as someone here stated. And about the subject. Its not the HC gamers, who think Wii as a threat, its the fanboys. I think that Wii is a HC gamers choise. And a HC gamer chooses from 360 and PS3 to go along with the Wii. You can state that you dont like the Wii because of where it takes gaming, but if we compare it to where PS3 takes gaming with high development costs. That road leads only for smaller studios to bankrupt and studios like EA (90% crap) to rule the industry. That goth music comparision was pretty good, but that line was crossed a long time ago. Just look at the franchises in games and how those games sell. Hockey for example, majority dont play hockey games because its a good hockey game, they play it because its NHL game. Majority dont play driving games because its good driving game, they play it because its F1 on WRC game. Or someone creates a new franchise, gamers like it and it gets a good reputition, they make a shitty sequel for it, gamers dont like it, but majority buys it because its hot and then we have another shitty sequel and another... The thing is that this is happening with or without Wii. Its more like what PSX and EA have had more to do with it, than what Wii has to do with it.
