Yeah, WoW is a serious cashcow. Imagine having 10m people paying you $100 each a year...
The only real competitor I can imagine to WoW would be a Pokemon MMORPG (and its a different demographic, so they can co-exist).
It would be interesting to see profits though - WoW would cost a metric-shitload to operate...
