I have a straight up question to ask.

...Why are some posters overacting to boxart, and a description of this game without knowing WHAT it is and HOW it plays?

Because they're a bunch of insecure "hardcore" or "serious" gamers who define good games as the ones with swords, guns, no neck muscle-men, or fast cars in them. Words like mini-games and family terrify and enrage them. They're the same people who told us how great Lair, Haze, Alone in the Dark, and the Force Unleashed were going to be. =P

Conversely I think people - myself included are worried Nintendo may have overly kiddified this franchise to the point of hurting sales.   It may be a great and fun game, but so was Zack & Wiki and Dewy's Adventure amongst others that suffered poor sales because it looked like a kiddie game but wasn't really.    This definately looks like a game targeting children (to me at least).  Maybe it is, maybe it's meant to be broader appealing but I think with a cover like that, the assumption will be it's meant for children only.

But is it really poor sales people are worried about in this thread? Because it sounds more like personal interest in the actual game from a lot of posters to me. I'd like to think that as people who frequent gaming websites we'd be above superficial impressions based on marketing campaigns, but I guess not.

If you want to talk about potential sales based on the game's box art, be my guest. I love talking about box covers.

True a lot are just expressing their personal (dis)interest based on little more than said cover art and scant details but again, because said cover art and details gives the impression it's too kiddie or casual for them.   Doesn't mean those people like nothing but violent games though.   They may just not want a game that will cause their friends to make sarcastic comments about their manliness.    Lord knows, I get enough for owning (and loving!) Dewy's Adventure.
