If developers merely wanted to "show off" new technology and/or technique, they would've stuck with the PC, not some ~3 year old console technology (yes, I mean the HD consoles).

And you're delineating yourself: "new gen" and "next gen". I thought people were already tired of the "hardcore" and "casual" dichotomy? Why introduce another?

A lot of games are multiplatform between PC/360/PS3, so it's not like the typical PC developers have left the PC side. Plus, there's even more prestige and GotY awards you can get when you can show off on three systems at the same time.

"Next gen" and "new gen" are clearly defined in the original post and don't leave for interpretation, but I could just replace them with HD and Wii if requested by more users. The terms were inspired by Reggie's speak at E3: "If you came here to see what's "next", you are in the wrong place. Instead we are going to show what's absolutely "new"." Something along those lines.

Reggie represents Nintendo. His "new gen" rhetoric is no different from "blast processing". If such terms would only contribute to the further rift among VGChartz members, it's best not to use it.

Please don't be unfair to developers (the programmers, artists etc. that are part of the dev chain). They design and make games they love, and games are not something that they can churn out in a month. Its not that they just look for money: if they did, then all games would be only for the Wii (and DS for the handhelds). You make it sound that they are "artsy" and "snubbish". I feel bad when developers are "forced" to do something for a particular platform (HD or otherwise) by their publisher.
