If developers merely wanted to "show off" new technology and/or technique, they would've stuck with the PC, not some ~3 year old console technology (yes, I mean the HD consoles).
And you're delineating yourself: "new gen" and "next gen". I thought people were already tired of the "hardcore" and "casual" dichotomy? Why introduce another?
