Funny things how consoles develop. It would be wise if people not presume a console will be something down the road. I remember thinking that I would get Punch Out and RTS games on the DS, because it was made for both. So I bought a DS, and they never really showed up.

This is a good point.  I was one of those people that thought the Wii would redefine FPS games.  That's my favorite genre.  Red Steel was OK.  Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was pretty fun.  Metroid was great.  Other than that...um...  I'm certainly not buying the Call of Duty games for the Wii when I can get a much more visually pleasing experience on my PS3 plus multiplayer.

I also thought the Wii Star Wars games would be awesome.  I bought the system partially in anticipation of Force Unleashed and Clone Wars Lightsaber Duels.  Turns out those game weren't very good.  Another let down.

I'm not surprised. To me, the things you mentioned are like the icing on the cake. So I don't mind waiting for them to come.

IMO, before you buy a console, you should check whether there exists a basic pool of games that you like and will be guaranteed to come out in a timely manner. To me, it's the platformers and Nintendo games. Everything else is icing and I won't go out of my way to buy another console if they are not released on the Wii.

If you can't find a basic pool of games you like, then don't risk your cash on a console in the hopes of future unconfirmed releases.
