Guerilla has been very clear that it is not possible to implement split screen for Killzone 2. It has nothing to do with the framerate. As a side note, you are cherry-picking some excellent work by Digital Foundry to insinuate that Killzone 2 has frame rate issues. The issues found in Killzone are no different than the frame issues found in Gears of War 2 or any other next-gen shooters.
To answer your question, I would rather have them as they are without splitscreen. I don't enjoy playing anything, except for MK, in splitscreen. The L4D and COD5 staggered splitscreen implementations suck, and Resistance 2 resized the aspect ratio.
