Many gamers think they are "cool" for not liking something popular and successfull. Comments like "Halo sucks!!' "Final Fantasy is overrated!!" "World of Warcraft is for brainless idiots" are all over the internet. I laugh every time I see them.

Maybe. i just dont see the reason to make things more complicated.
I dont like many popular games myself, actually. That doesnt make me call people who buy them "mindless sheeps" or whine on internet forums what games I like more dont sell as much.
If something is popular that means a lot of people like it. Which means that there is something to like about it.

No. I try to look at it differently: there is no such thing as bad taste.
Look: I used to watch Super Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon when I was a kid. Back then I thought it was amazing. but I dont like it anymore - that doesnt mean the cartoon sucks. That only means that cartoon is not for me.
Games are targeted at different people with different tastes. Me not being a part of one group doesnt mean that group sucks and has a bad taste in games.
