Anyone seen the Fountain by Darren Aranofsky?

I haven't. I've heard less than stellar things. I may rent it one day to check it out though.

To get the thread rolling, I'm going to give a super mini-review to "Shoot'Em Up", an over-the-top action flick starring Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, and Monica Belluchi.

SHOOT'EM UP

Like action films? Like cheesy one-liners? Like to see things that are impossible happen on screen? Then this movie is for you. I admit, this is a very fun movie. You will laugh, and not just at the funny parts. Some of the action is so over the top, you can't believe they actually put it in the film.

SPOILER WARNING (it will be blacked out)

The movie starts with Clive Owen sitting on a bench at a bus stop, waiting and eating a carrot. A pregnant woman walks by, obviously in a rush. She is followed by a man with a gun. Clive pursues the two, and the first kill happens when Clive jams his carrot into the guy's mouth and out the back of his head.  Crazy I know, but the movie has just begun. He ends up delivering the pregnant woman's baby while shooting many no-name gangsters coming out of the woodworks, with bullet shells bouncing off of the woman's belly. And to top it off, he cuts the umbillical cord with a bullet. This all happens in the first 5-10 minutes, and it sets the pace for the entire film. And yes, the action keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

Clive is pretty much the ultimate bad ass anti-hero, and Paul Giamatti is the clever bad guy with an endless supply of bad men for Clive to gun down. And Monica ... mmmm ...

Anyway, if this is your type of film, check it out. It won't disappoint, unless you are expecting a movie with some substance, in which case, you've come to the wrong place
