It's 'meh' because as FPSs go it's years behind the curve in everything from artistry, to AI to gameplay. As Vagabond7 says it's not better (or doesn't look to be) than a PC FPS 5 or so years ago.

Having said that, I'd love a pure run and gun FPS for my Wii and I'll definately pick this up. However this won't convert any HD FPS fans and most FPS fans already own one of the HD systems or high-end PCs.

The Conduit, due to it's simple, pure gameplay may win over a lot of new Wii owners or lapsed gamers to the FPS experience though.

What do you mean by simple, pure gameplay? I don't see any difference from it or any other FPS at the same point in development. Expect graphics when compared to HD FPS.

Since FPS have been around for ages, there's always the temptation to add something new to differentiate it or 'keep up with the Jones'.   Except for some very basic puzzle elements HVS has avoided that.   There's no hiding behind walls, no stealth, no squad commands, no advanced AI where you have to tactically outthink the opponets, no calling in air strikes, no co-op play, etc.

In essence you can give the wiimote to your wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter say 'just point and shoot and use the stick to move'.  And that's it - they can play the entire game (almost) by themselves. with no further instruction.
