it would be a bit strange being able to compare any console to any console market share, i mean what would gameboy versus 360 be about?

oh wait i get it, you mean respective market share, so if you were to compare 360 and gamboy both would start at 100% .... 360 would be market share compared to ps3/wii (even though they aren't on the graph) while GB would have no competition until gamegear/other handhelds came along.

then again it all depends on generation for that, which complicates things for GB because it lasted so long, with a number of hanhelds born and dead within its life.... also would be complex for SNES/Ps1 because they are in different generations, but in all reality ps1 was taking m/share from SNES.

i think the only thing you could have really is a graph for this gen, because its much simpler with everything releasing close together.
So one graph for consoles [360 starts at 100% until Wii/ps3]
and one for handhelds.

^ wouldn't really show much come to think of it, you can get vague ideas of m/share by looking at the LTD graphs and working it out in your head. edit; about your post just above mine,.. you are trying to say a sales surge would only be visible for one console, but if you are comparing it to the other 2 consoles you'd see them surge too [and surge more in your scenario above]
