I want to see a game in which you are a soldier/warriors/whatever and can, but are not forced to, advance in rank. However, your rank should actually affect the game, for example, as a private you'll just get to obey, as a sergeant you have a squad to command, as a captain you have rather large forces to command but can still have some actual contact to the battle and as a general you'll just have tons of troops to command. Yeah, and all the time you're playing as the same character and controlling him/her the same way, the only difference being what you do. Also, this idea would pretty seamlessly combine shooting/fighting/strategy/whatever. Yeah, this would naturally require a sandbox-style game too.
There are probably a few games that try this but they're probably not very seamless... Yep, 'seamless' is the keyword it seems.
