Yes, you can even play it with a GC controller. The main difference is more content: more characters, more stages, more items, a stupidly large amount of awesome music...

Super Mario Galaxy is the true Mario platformer.
Twlight Princess is the true Zelda game (but the same as the GC version except for Wii controls and the whole game world being flipped over left-to-right.)
