To me and most people: No.
If you really want one and want to spend the money I would still recommend getting one since things are probably going to be moving more that direction, but for the time being and the next 5-ish years (pulling that number out of my ass) 720p works perfectly fine.
If you do go 720p, you will be able to get a bigger and nicer TV for the price of a smaller 1080p TV too.
