The console was always inexpensive to make, and Nintendo always got strong sales from first party titles. While the Cube may not have been as successful as the PS2 it was definately profitable. Whether the Cube was MORE profitable than the PS2 doesn't much matter any more as Sony managed to piss away most of that money with the PS3.
