Sony had a 1 million advertising budget for R&C:TOD in the UK, but advertisments for the game actually only began at least a week after the game had launched.

Perhaps Sony are of the opinion that the hardcore will pick up the game at launch regardless. Then as word of mouth spreads (a few days later), they start up with the advertising campaign. I'm not entirely sure.
