As a rule of thumb, the only people to really die during the opening of an RPG are:  the main character's direct family, nameless NPCs who don't matter, and possibly everyone in the main character's home town.  Anyone else dying will probably miraculously resurface during the game.


 

Would not be the first rule they broke since FFXII. Like: never make ALL your main character boring as hell. FF XII broke this rule successfully.

People just hate FF XII because it didn't have a crappy love story.

 

Or maybe because some of us thought the characters, story, etc... was just boring and I won't even get into the MMO style battle system it had.
