Interesting article. I wonder more about games like Portal. After developing it and releasing it what did it cost? Was it sort of the gaming version of The Blair Witch Project or Clerks where it cost about 1% of what a blockbuster costs, tens of thousands of dollars versus a few million, to make or is the range in videogame development just not as broad. If it is not as broad they may just be looking at the wrong kind of business model.
