| Crono said: All you people looking back at FF7 and hating don't remember where we were when FF7 came out. Yeah, FF7 has a dated battle system, but it was revolutionary at the time. This was before games like Xenogears and Parasite Eve and other RPGs with a new battle system. Remember, this was a game designed for the SNES CD add on, then the N64, then the PSX (oddly enough, the SNES CD add on, again). Sure, it borrowed alot from previous titles, but if you know anything about FF games, its that their battle and magic systems go through evolutions, not brand new designs. FF4 had ATB, but no gage, FF5 had ATB and a gage, and a fleshed out job system (more fleshed out that FF3). FF6 had ATB, and character customizations thru Espers (stat bonus's occurred at level up, not upon equipping) FF6 also had limit breaks. I should know, I pulled one off exactly when I needed once. It was amazing. FF7 had 3d, ATB, limit breaks with a gage, customizations through materia, elaborate summons, and FMV. Seriously. Evolution. FF7 was the most advanced RPG when it hit the market. You've just all forgotten that since then. FF7 needs a remake. Not a new battle system, not new plot twists. It needs a remake to get rid of the god aweful character models, and to re-localize: FF7's localization was horrendous. Almost as bad as FF4's. Go back and play it, and then try and decifer what the hell people are talking about. Its no wonder people came up with crackpot plot theories: 45% of the game is in Engrish. Oh, and before people jump down my throat. FF1 was my first FF game. I was like 5, and didn't get it, but it was my first. After that, FF2 (Jap 4). FF3 (Jap 6) was the first FF game I actually understood to be an RPG. After playing that, FF4 was the first one I beat, then FF7. I knows what I'ms talkin about. |
I would like to have whatever you were smoking. FFVII was simply the first JRPG with a huge ad campaign. The battle system was slow. Character individuality was ruined by the material sytem. The story was awful. Sephiroth was terrible villain. FFVII was the first game in the series in which I had to force myself to complete the game. After all that I got an atrocious ending to boot. I mean you go through the trouble of picking up Yuffie, who I despised, and Vincent, who was actually one of the few cool characters in the game, and they weren't even in the FMV ending. For the life of me I cannot understand the attachment FFVII. I know it was the first rpg for a lot of gamers but that still isn't an excuse. A great RPG needs to have a excellent characters, a well crafted story, and exceptional gameplay. FFVII doesn't haven't any of those things.
