Right now, according to shipment figures from the end of the last quarter, consoles have sold up to 242.01 million units and have been four years since the very first console stepped in (the Nintendo DS). That means we are - at the worst scenario - two quarters away from reaching last gen shipment figures to date (which I estimate to be around 270 million).

Considering next gen start on the end of 2010 for portables, and end of 2011-2012 for consoles, my estimated lifetime sales figures are around:

Wii - 155 million

PS3 - 50 million

X360 - 55 million

DS - 155 million

PSP - 85 million

Considering them to be very reasonable predictions, is well possible that consoles finally hit the benchmark of half a million consoles. Is also worthy to note non-Nintendo consoles have a shot at outselling their last gen counterparts, even if only by a small margin.
