Yes girls use watashi and man have a lot of words for "I" like 'Boku', 'Ore' (but those two doesn't really have a difference I thought) but most for the time they don't use 'I'.

 I think a lot of time they don't use pronoun at all. I had good laugh when misunderstandings occur in anime because of that.
