Multi console ownership was pretty high last gen (especially amongst XBox and GameCube owners, who bought a PS2 at some point), I think it's likely to be the case this generation as well. I know various people including myself who both own a PS3 (primary console for most) and a Wii.

I think over time (price drops, sequels to high profile PS2 games, etc) a vast majority of past PS2 owners will own a PS3 in the future. In addition I think a lot of Wii and XBox 360 users will switch to the PS3 as their primary console as well.

 

I really am quite shocked you believe your own rhetoric, really it amazes me, the fact is you can still browse your pictures, play music, and movies on the Wii as well (which a lot of people don't seem to even realize) at the bare bones they both play music, they both display your pictures, they both play movies, and most of all they both play games. 

High profile PS2 games will sell well on PS3 cause those diehard fans own a PS3 and typically are loyal to it, but will those new high profile games bring new owners or the mass market that used to own a PS2?  Highly unlikely as many are still satisfied with what they get out of the PS2 or moving to the Wii, while Nintendo still produces its high quality games and will also help support the cmass market something Sony did very little of with the PS2. 

The fact is the mass market sees Wii as king and aren't attracted by multimedia functions, they like things like Opera, Dr. Phil, and all the other talk shows and media outlets talk about, the Wii, they see late night TV and see people enjoying playing Tennis and in some cases playing sports games against real pros and winning, Wii has the image and core Nintendo market, PS3 has the core PS2 market, and the image is what sells and attracts the third parties and future "high profile" games.
