For batting specifically, rather than running between the wickets or bowling. As blunty suggested, getting to the pitch of the ball, moving across the stumps, playing frontfoot and backfoot shots are all important aspects of batting. Indeed, footwork has been implemented before in previous EA cricket games. Balance board support would be optional of course, but would surely enhance the experience.
On another note, it would make sense to bring this to the Wii, given its popularity in markets where cricket is popular such as the UK and Australia. The recent success of Big Beach Sports was mostly a consequence of its cricket minigame.
