Any 360 owners NOT buying Halo 3?

Or I can't figure it out because they decided to put the key details into books instead of the actual games. Memory is probably failing me, but I can't think of any other games that used books as canon to fill up the series of plotholes.

You can't honestly be serious. The opening pits you in the middle of nowhere, giving no background detail about anything or anyone, and Halo 2 starts off... months, perhaps, after the ending of the first Halo. You'd have to be an executive to really understand the story regardless.

Halo opening:  'You are a soldier on board a military spaceship that crash-lands on an alien world.  The aliens you shot down are also on that world.  Go shoot them.'  That is not bad for an FPS opening. 

Halo 2 opening:  'You are in orbit around Earth and aliens are invading.  Go shoot them.'  Ditto.

As for the rest of the story, there is quite sufficient explanation of where you are and what is going on.  If you want backstory like Lord of the Rings gives, you're shopping in the wrong store.  Books have hundreds of pages to spend on that stuff, which games do not if they don't want to alienate the people who want to shoot stuff.  

Diablo (or Diablo II anyway) also had book spinoffs, and I'm sure others did as well.  Does that mean those games' stories were all inadequate as well?
