In light of EA announcing Dead Space on Wii, we decided to look at what games from current next-gen systems we think could make the transition to Wii. It’s a daring idea to take a game that prides itself on using the most of next-gen hardware in order to make a truly deep experience and then take that back a step to re-imagine the experience on Wii. Some would even say it is a ludicrous idea to knock a game down a peg by removing much of what made a game a success, but we beg to differ. After all, we’re all for sharing the experience. If a game is great why shouldn’t everyone get to play? At the end of the day, a successful re-imagining depends on how well you pull the transition off, the accuracy of your execution, and when it comes to the Wii, your distinctive control ideas and how they hold up to the original. Mirrors Edge. Mirrors Edge didn’t shake the world. In fact, it barely made a dent on the majority of last year’s Christmas line up. I personally am on two sides when it comes to Mirrors Edge. It looked nice and was an interesting concept, but there were a lot of factors which should have added to the depth of the concept rather than take away. One of those factors was the control scheme which just didn’t feel comfortable on either the PS3 or 360. I think with some more thought, the Wii controls could have pulled this off in a way that both fitted the action of the game and added to the experience. Resident Evil 5. Given the backlash received by many after playing nothing more than a demo, such complaints made me go back to the roots and give Resident Evil 4 Wii edition another spin. Considering how similar RE4 and RE5 are in terms of gameplay, a port wouldn’t be too much of a stretch aside from technical and graphical dimming. Capcom has hinted at a Wii version before, but only to say it could happen. I think it is safe to say it probably won’t happen, but then again, Dead Rising did find a home on Wii...
Grand Theft Auto IV. Whilst Nintendo are about to receive their first real GTA title on the DS, Wii owners still hold out hope for a GTA experience hitting home on the Wii. Since the Wii was released, Rockstar has been supporting the little system that could with pretty much every franchise under its belt that isn’t GTA. Will Nintendo ever see a real Grand Theft Auto title on Wii? Maybe, but does it really need one? Little Big Planet. A little bit of info I once heard: Little Big Planet was originally an idea to be implemented on the Wii, but Nintendo turned down the idea. Big mistake eh? Maybe. After all, I’m sure we would not have ended up with the Little Big Planet we know and love today, but it is easy to see how this sort of title could play on the Wii and how it could have seen greater success than it has seen on the PS3. I’m not saying the title was a failure on the PS3, don’t get me wrong. Anyway, there are some factors that might have made such a game impossible on Wii; the physics engine certainly wouldn’t be there, but the interface is right there to make it a potential Wii hit. LocoRoco. Some might accuse me of picking the most childish looking game on a next gen and saying it’ll work on the Wii because maybe Nintendo is often called ‘the kiddy system’, but I think LocoRoco would be a welcome title on the Wii. First off, you have the tilt controls of the Wii remote being held in what I like to call the ‘candy bar’ position being a good substitute for shoulder button or six-axis control. It is also the sort of title that would suit a Wii Ware release over a retail disc release. Feel free to post comments about our choices and which titles you think fit the build. Next week, we’ll look into which Wii games we’re prefer to play of PS3/360. http://www.thatgamingsite.com/article-113-PS3360-games-wed-like-to-see-on-Wii.html
