i would say the comparisson is weak... sega promised innovation and variety with the dreamcast and they kept word..you could even feel it in the otherwise neglected by all continent of europe ,

we got the first console to be able to surf the internet , the first multiplayer online games... some even supported the headset, games like shenmue offered online bonuses you could get for collecting special items in the game , the first mmorpg on a console ,one that can be played even today if you know where to look , we got titles like samba de amigo ,which was the first of the now so popular "music instrument ..thingy " genre and many others...

the main difference being.. that you could feel that sega was all in with that final console.. and that they cared about us.. it is the feeling that so many people cherish when they think of nintendo ,whereas the only thing sony loves about us is our money

as for sony.. they promised so much and delivered so little... they couldnt even deliver the promised psn store gamecard that was supposed to work like one for the i tunes shop... but still you can only shop if you have a credit card ..unless you are so fortunate to live in one of the few larger american towns who offer the service , the console was delayed many times with the resulst that the first models were still unreliable , the launch title lineup was lacking anything good .. and the flow of new (good)games through the first year was pitiful

the dreamcast failed because of the lack of good advertising.. the loss of trust in sega due to the 32X and the saturn and the coming of the ps 2 that recieved the attention and hype of the masses

the ps 3 was a disaster from the start.. the constant delays.. rumors about the lack of reliability and the 1 year headstart for the 360 were enough time to underminde the once good reputation of the ps consoles and the marketing and promotion efforts that spawned catchphrases like "giant enemy crab" and "real time weapon change" did little to change that

i dont think the ps3 will ever recieve such love and devation as the dreamcast did /does

to call a console the next dreamcast simply because its not doing so well is wrong.. and it shows a lack of understanding what made the dreamcast so great
