The point is that their fanbase was concentrated in the playstation brand. At the beginning of the generation they started going exclusive with 360 games. Which has now split their fanbase. If they had focused on the PS3 instead of the 360 they would not be in this predicament now of having to cater towards 360 users in one region while focusing on PS3 users in another region. Splitting their resources and increasing their costs at a much bigger rate than they'll see in their returns.

And you can have all the remakes and spin offs you want on other consoles or with weaker graphics but when is the last time that a new FF game that wasn't a remake or spin off came out and SE wasn't blatantly trying to wow people with cut scenes and graphical prowess? Chocobo and shiva and all that shit are just character pieces used in the various FF games, they are not selling points. Stunning cut scenes and great character models and a graphically driven atmosphere are what the main FF series uses as it's selling points.

And I never said they couldn't make money off of the Wii. There is tons of money to be made off of the Wii. Just not with the main FF series. If they did that they'd be alienating much of their core fanbase and pissing them off. They could get the same return with a VII remake on the wii or a kingdom hearts or a tactics remake or sequel. It would be a dumb move to make FFXIII come out on the WII and lose a lot of it's selling points as the main FF series.
