When the playstation 3 reaches mass market price, it sound see a insane boom. Though the train might have gone. I can't tell either way. Noone can. The playstation franchise is still the biggest massmarket one that appeals to most people. Most people still have a playstation. Once the ps3 reaches that mass market price, it should see a insane boom. I can't say for certain it will but there is a good chance that it will.. and i doubt that, when they cut their price it'll "keep failing"
Although you have to concider that it isn't failing. It's the most expensive console to ever even get near these numbers sold. It'll soon have outsold the gamecube and the xbox despite a price tag bigger than when either of them launched.
Yes my post is poorly written, i'm tired. I just woke up. But it should get the point across since i believe i'm right.

You seem to assume that there is a misterious "mass market price", located somewhere between the PS3 and the Wii, and most consumers refuse to buy anything above this price.
This is untrue.
Even prev-gen consoles needed price cuts during their lifetimes. According to your logic, the 199$ gamecube was already "mass market price", so everyone in the mass market bought it, and cutting it to 99$ would be pointless. NOT!
If the PS3 would have a price cut, no one would buy it, because it would still be more expensive than the x360 with its second price cut at the same time.
And yes, it is failing. The high price is not an excuse, just a reason.
