Your data will have already been added though, so it won't take away what you have already played.

As soon as you enter the Nintendo Channel (it says "sending/recieving data") if you have allowed it, it loads up all your previous play time.... For it to stay updated with your time you need to keep entering the channel. So if you re-download it and go on it again, it will add up the playtime since you last entered the channel.

This is why the data for the actual Nintendo Channel is much lower than the total number of people included.... for instance they worked out in this article 1.9 million Wii owners are included.... but if you worked out how many of those supposedly used the Nintendo Channel it would likely be only 1.4-1.5 million.... this is because the other 0.5 million people only entered the channel 1 time, which meant it couldn't count any time they had spent on the channel (it only counts previous playtime entries)
