No, his company doesn't need the PS3. At all. The consoles are just extra money to Valve. They have the digital distribution for the entire PC world in the palm of their hands with Steam.
And he can talk shit about the PS3! He's a game designer complainign from a game designer's perspective, and a businessman doing the same! He is allowed.

I think that Gabe Newell's reputation, and that of his game studio, will weather him saying things that are true about the PS3.
And no, Valve should not "give the PS3 a chance". They are too small to create an engine that would work on the PS3, and the returns on making a game for Sony's platform would be microscopic compared to the kind of money that Valve makes delivering an experience on Steam.

so you agree with him when he and valve say all those things and being inmature? ok thats your opinion. but i dont agree with that. and if you agree with that then dont start saying that sony is arrongant, sony is this, sony is that. because they are as arrogant as sony. i am starting to think that they hate the ps3 because they are a little pro-ms because they havent work for the wii or the ds or the psp either. those are hard to develop for too?. and if he have not worked for the ps3 then dont talk about the console until you try it. just let ms buy you and get it over with if you always want to work for the pc and an architecture similar to a pc.
