First rule of quoting a person, wherein one uses quotation marks, is to actually quote them. Do not paraphrase. "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think it's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell. "I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over.' Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it.'" Nothing he says here is particularly objectionable. Sony did lose track of what customers wanted, Sony did lose track of what developers wanted, that have been many people who suggested Sony should recoup their losses and try again, and if Sony said what he suggests they should, they would go a long way toward repairing their image. Given that it's an interview where he gave the answer on the spot, I think he did fine. |
If you ask me, that was the sentiment that got sega to canning saturn and creating DC which was an excellent console in it's own merit but look what happened. Something tells me he'll be the first to run far away if sony had canned the ps3 to develop another console. When it's not one's money or time, it's easy to pull statements out one's ass. Who would trust sony again if they had canned the ps3 to produce something else. I still think his wording was rather strong but I don't thnk we'll ever agree on that one so I'll leave that aside.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
