Leave Ronster He fails to realized that SEGA fell not because of Sony's $$$$ but because they HAD a LACK of talent during the Saturn days and that stigma carried over to the Dreamcast...Say what you want but if I remember correctly before N64 Nintendo had control of 3rd party support and they Spanked Sega during the Genesis/Snes days

Nintendo lost 3rd party support because they chose to go with the limiting cartridge based games for the N64 and the fact that Sony was going with CD's made 3rd parties turn towards them. SEGA CD and other pointless add-ons didnt help SEGA's brand and it Sunk!

You can only whore a blue hedgehog for so long and other franchises....the Dreamcast was a fine system with good-great games but them failing was their fault and no one elses.

Nintendo had NO 3rd party support during the N64 days and were able to stay alive and do well by 1st party games. If SEGA had Legendary 1st party games why the hell couldnt they stay alive Ronster? answer that to me? Sony didnt buy off 3rd parties, 3rd parties flocked to them because of how they handled and the technology of their system.

bottom line

__________________________ Sega fucked up and had to leave because of it. If first party games were as strong as you claim we probably would have seen SEGA in the hardware biz still.

It would seem that a few points are needed to clear up why third party support gravitated to the Playstation.

Nintendo during the NES days only allowed them to make two games a year, and only games for them. They did relax the rules during the SNES run, but the damage had been done. Yes the cartridge was more expensive than the disc to produce, but they were still pissed at Nintendo.

Sega may not have been as succesful in NA as Nintendo, but in Europe and the PAL teritories they did better than Nintento and made a ton of money. Which they promptly blew with all of the add ons for the Genesis system.

The third parties also saw that their games did not sell as well as the first party games on Sega or Nintendo systems, so when the Playstation came out, they flocked to it, due to not having any competition from Sony. The PS1 launched just after the Saturn, so was not in competition with the Sega CD etc.

In Japan the Saturn and PS1 were neck and neck until FFVII came out to give the war to Sony. In NA which was not a Sega stronghold Sony marketed the PS1 as the "adult" gaming system vs Nintendos' "kiddie" N64 machine, yet the Saturn had almost all of the same PS1 games, plus Segas' first party ones.

Nintendo lost major market share during the N64 & GCN days, but had the very popular Game Boy franchise to make up for it, something Sega did not. Nintendo also did not have to deal with piracy, which hurt Sega at the worst possible time.

Sega poured their heart and soul into the Dreamcast, unfortunately they had no money left to tell the world about the games or defend it from Sonys' lies. 70 million for one game which they had hoped would sell many DCs' did not work when they couldn't tell anybody about it.

From a huge Nintendo fan, the bottom line is, those who had the pleasure of owning and playing the Dreamcast will never knock it. Whereas those who didn't, DO all of the time!
